Winter is one of my favorite seasons. A season of swirling snow, cozy nights by the fire, casual forays through iced-over woods, and warming cocoa cups. If you live in a Disney movie, that is. For the rest of us, winter usually entails braving strong winds and squeezing through icy snow in order to seek refuge in a place filled with heated, dry, moisture-sucking air. So much for the pink cheeks and joyful snowball battles.

As if dealing with freezing weather wasn't difficult enough, you also have to deal with the damage it may cause to your skin. Because winter skincare isn't just a case of "well, I'll deal with it once I see an issue." No, you didn't wake up with a dream about pixie cuts, therefore this isn't a haircut you got on the spur of the moment.
Winter skincare is all about being proactive and then maintaining your skin so you don't have to hunt down a problem and try to find a solution.
For individuals who want to maintain their skin healthy and undamaged this winter, here are some tips on how to keep it from falling off (at least until April).
A good face oil has the ability to keep moisture from escaping from the skin. If you're up for it, consider replacing your midday moisturizer with a light oil-like rosehip. If you haven't already, integrate an oil into your nighttime skincare routine. Everything else you put on your face before it will be sealed in, effectively sealing it all in for the evening. Exfoliating is a must-do for winter skincare.
The combination of an excellent, lightweight moisturizer and oil is unstoppable. Choose one without petroleum-based substances such as paraffin wax, mineral oil, or anything ending in -eth. Ingredients like these might cause more damage than good by momentarily moisturizing the skin only to clog pores and suffocate it. Regularly applying oil and moisturizers won't help unless you start with a prepared surface, so exfoliate first.
