Cypress TX, Newborn Photographer, How to find your own style

When it comes to style, it's easier said than done. It's much more simple to get trapped in the cycle of buying styles you won't actually wear than to understand what it is you would wear. Like most people when it comes to finding your own personal style, it can take a lot of brainpower and energy without the right steps. One thing to keep in mind is that it's not meant to be hard at all. Keep reading to find out your personal style without breaking a sweat (or the bank).

Step 1: Do Without Thinking

A lot of the time when we search for something, it's harder to find. It's the same with finding our style. Constantly trying to label your style and sticking to labels you're no longer suited for will end up frustrating you. The key is not to force it! Pinterest, for example, is a great place to start pinning looks you love. Every look may not look the same; you might even realize you only love certain details about a look, but for this step, do not obsess about it. Your only job now is to collect looks you love! It doesn't matter how many; once you feel you have enough, you can move on to the next step.

Now that you have your Pinterest board or your own collection of looks, it's time to find the patterns. This step is all about figuring out why you were drawn to each look. Maybe you liked the shape of the garment or the color. Maybe you envisioned yourself somewhere in the garment. Maybe the key point was the accessories. Something about the look drew you in, and it's important to know what. Do this for each look or the majority, if you went heavy on the pinning!

If you take a look at your reasons, you may see that some are the exact same. You may have said it makes the person look confident and sexy in it or classy and elegant. Whatever your reason, if it appears constant, it is a key component. You may have pinned or selected a lot of the same color tones like neutrals or neons. This is also important to keep in mind. Whatever you see as repetition make a note for. Once you've figured out the main reasons, move on to the next step.

Step 3: Try It On!

Now, this is the fun part. Once you've got an idea of what you love, you're ready. While this is enjoyable, it's important you don't get distracted from the task at hand. We don't want to impulsively buy anything to purposely collect dust in our closets.

This step is just as important as the first steps because this is where you actually find out if you liked something or you liked how it looked on someone else. It happens often where we see something on someone and think it's absolutely cute or sexy, and the moment we put it on, it becomes a totally different garment. If this happens, do not buy it. It won't look different tomorrow nor probably next week. You're not obligated to buy anything during this step but if you find something you absolutely love yourself in, it's a must.

Step 4: No Strings If you didn't find anything or couldn't find reasons for the looks you collected, that's totally fine. Not everyone's problems can be fixed in one post! There are plenty of posts you can try to help narrow down your search. The most important thing to note is that a style is ever-changing. Trying to put a label on your style will only limit you and your perception of self. Whatever makes you feel good, wear it! Whatever doesn't, recycle it or toss it! You shouldn't be tied to clothes that remind you of someone you grew out of. So learn to have fun but be reasonable. Allow your style the room to develop without strings!
